For the love of blogs - episode 19

I cannot believe it has been nearly two months since my last blog, but here we are yet again. I am currently sitting in a hotel room somewhere in Hampshire, as I am away for a long weekend! I must admit it is total bliss, no husband, no kids, no unhinged labrador, no problems!! Oh, apart from having to try and produce some “blog content.” Now tomorrow I am going on a gin distillery/tasting tour, and maybe I should wait until after that to write some “content”, but then again, it may need to come with a warning – in fact, it should come with a warning every time I produce one of these!!! I will try not to offend the four and a half readers I have managed to attract, as I cannot afford to lose anyone, especially as it has taken me years to get to this magic number. I suppose I'd best get on with it.

Earlier this month, our Advanced Practitioner Joe recently delivered our first Understanding Prehospital Maternity & Newborn Care, which is a two-day course. The first day covered the theory side, including the female anatomy and physiology, the three trimesters, foetal growth, and associated complications. We then looked at the importance of history taking and worked through several different prehospital maternity complications. The second day was more “hands-on,” including how to help safely deliver a baby and how to care for the newborn and mum. We have decided to offer this course either as a one-day course (whether that be day one theory or day two practical only) or learners can attend both days. Early feedback concluded it was a very interesting course, and learners felt more confident should the unexpected happen. We are hoping to organise another date for this course, later in the year, so please keep an eye out on the website.

In my last blog, I mentioned our first Level 4 – First Response Emergency Care (Frec 4) course had started. Well, that course has now been completed, and all our wonderful learners thoroughly enjoyed it. Now they just need to complete their workbooks. Well done, everyone, and even though the course is now complete, we at CTS are still here to support you with your workbooks so you can achieve that lovely, well-earned certificate. Thanks to Bruce for teaching the course, who, according to some, has the same teaching style as Shaun – could they be twins in a past life? The thought fills me with dread!!

Other courses which have taken place at our training room include Level 3 – First Response Emergency Care (Frec 3), Emergency First Aid + Forestry, as well as Basic Life Support and Immediate Life Support. We also delivered a Level 3 Safeguarding Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults course. This qualification is designed for a person who has contact with children, young people, or vulnerable adults in their working environment, including voluntary work. The qualification promotes awareness and sensitivity to safeguarding, enabling learners to be able to identify issues and emphasises the responsibility to ensure that concerns are reported and acted on appropriately. The content can at times be distressing and thought-provoking, but we all need to be aware of the importance of protecting vulnerable people, whether they are young or old. We can be their voice and make a difference in a person’s life. For up-to-date course date information, please check the dates section on our website.

Working hard….

We still do some event medical cover, and the style of event can vary from rock orchestra to bands from the 90s/00s, as well as conferences. The one I recently covered was remarkably interesting: a job fair. I will be honest, I was tempted to see if I could find a new career, one that would get me out of this “job.” Sadly, it seems I am too old – I am only 25!!!. So, unfortunately, you are still stuck with me!! Right, that is my cue to get some breakfast, maybe followed by some retail therapy and use the hubby’s flexible friend – his credit card, before you all get the wrong idea, see I am showing my age yet again. I may be back, or I may accidentally fall into a large vat of gin – what a way to go. Until next time ………hiccup

Laters……
