This bespoke course covers Emergency First Aid at Work plus Anaphylaxis management, giving learners the knowledge and practical competence required to provide crucial assistance to a casualty in an emergency until medical assistance arrives, potentially saving a life. The qualification covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), primary survey, the recovery position and choking.
The Anaphylaxis element of the course focuses specifically on the risks faced in dental, aesthetic and beauty settings, where treatments, local anaesthetics and products can trigger a severe allergic reaction. Learners cover:
Recognising the signs and symptoms of Anaphylaxis and how quickly they can develop
Understanding common triggers in clinical and aesthetic settings (local anaesthetics, latex, medications, injectables)
The correct use of adrenaline auto-injectors (such as EpiPen, Jext or Emerade)
Positioning and monitoring a casualty during a reaction
When and how to call for emergency help
Post-incident care and the importance of monitoring for a biphasic reaction
The course also covers other life-saving medications found in both dental and doctors' practices, and aesthetics clinics including Glucagel/Glucagon for Hypoglycaemia and — their usage, dosages, storage requirements and how to administer them correctly and safely.
